Keeps your BMW’s hood propped in position, 2 per car
Have you ever had a hood fall on your head? If you have been so fortunate to not experience this we can assure you, it hurts. BMW uses gas pressure struts to keep hoods and trunks open for the most part. For one, this is convenient as you can simply open the hood and not have to worry about finding the hood support. However, this little part is often unappreciated until it won’t support the weight of the hood anymore.
We recommend replacing hood struts and trunk struts in matched pairs
Hood Lift Support
Hood lift supports, or gas struts, are pressurized cylinders designed to hold up a car’s hood. Over time, they can fail due to a pressure drop, often caused by exposure to extreme temperatures, dust, or contaminants. Cold weather, in particular, can reduce the gas pressure inside the struts, making them less effective at supporting the hood during cooler conditions.
Hood Lift Support Failure Symptoms
- The hood may feel heavier or fail to stay open as high as before due to a gas leak in the lift support
- Grease or oil leaking from the existing shocks
- Seeping noise or creaks coming from the shocks when lifting the hood or trunk
- Hood or trunk fails to stay open when raised
